You sent me Christmas photos of your kids. This is the best I could do.

I got about 10 Christmas cards from people that feature their spouse and their kids.

That’s nice.

I’m mainly interested in the photos of my nieces and nephews because they are sorta like my kids since I don’t have any kids.

I just never know what to say in return when I get these cards. It’s like being the only single person in a room full of parents talking about diapers. Maybe when I get into my 80′s I’ll have something to add, but right now I’m at a loss for words.

My past Christmas letters haven’t quite hit the mark. I guess you spread Christmas cheer by sending out pictures of what’s important and giving everyone an update on your life. Sounds fair.

I don’t mind the cards. I get it. But I don’t have kids and there seems to be some expectation to send out cards with professional photos of kids. I certainly can’t borrow someone else’s kids because that just isn’t done these days.

Not without law enforcement getting involved.

I mainly say things like “you have a lovely family” but I don’t know what else to add.

Maybe “your kids look real nice.”

And possibly “cute shirt!”

I’m not  scared of my life. I was never one who was dying to have kids. I just grew up taking care of nieces and nephews and I’m thrilled to be their aunt. It makes me pretty darn happy.

How do I get that on a photo card?

Well, I gave it a try.

Merry Christmas!

And, you have a lovely family.

Perfect!! You did great!! Pictures of YOUR life is what is most meaningful on the photo card in my opinion. I love the Christmas card and I thank you so much. :) If you’re ever flying over Charlotte, NC please buzz the house. Many times. But don’t get in trouble. ;) Merry Christmas to you or Happy Holidays or Happy Whatevs and I’ll read ya later!

Priceless! We don’t have kids either. And at this point it’s not going to happen. This year a friend asked if I’d ever done a photo Christmas card. When I replied “no” because we don’t have kids she recommended we do one with ourselves and our cats. Her reasoning – “after all they are your kids.” (And they do bring us joy).

Love your cards! Here’s one my husband and I sent out.

    December 2012

    Dear Friends and Family,

The Kushners have had yet another incredible year!!!

Simon has been awarded his J.D. degree from Duke University and is now employed as an attorney with the prestigious Cohen, Katz & Chase firm in New York. He works within his specialty of Feline Law and recently successfully defended a case where his client had been charged with both stalking and littering. Despite his tendency to take on cases of questionable merit, we are extremely proud of him.

Schuster also continues to be a source of great joy in our lives. She recently completed her studies at Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine and has begun her internship at The Small Animal Clinic in Fuquay-Varina. Our little girl briefly considered changing her major to ornithology but in the end, decided to continue with the more humane study of furbology. She does volunteer work for the Paws without Claws organization and now plans to work with strays. She has obviously inherited the gene for social work from her father!

Now that our extraordinary cats have completed their schooling, Paul has officially retired and is enjoying a busy and fun-filled life of leisure at home. Anna, of course, continues to find great meaning in her work and was recently recognized for her contribution to the field of entomology when she identified yet another important bug as part of her efforts to improve the quality of SAS software.

We both delight in our weekend escapes to Sunset Lake as well.

As you can see, we still are incredibly successful in all our endeavors.

And, as always, we hope you are as happy and prosperous as we are.

The Kushners (Anna, Paul, Simon & Schuster)

    Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukah!
